Wheels Of Light
Ear Coning Benefits
By Maggie Batt

As my client lies on a padded floor, Native American flute music is playing in the background.  A breeze blows through the windows signaling me to begin.  I invite Eagle of the East, Serpent of the South, Jaguar of the West, and Hummingbird of the North to enter and create sacred space.

I cut and shape a beeswax cone to fit my client?s ear canal.  I hold the base of the cone with my Reiki hands, as I ask that the highest healing energy needed for the session channel through me.  I now light the end of the cone bringing in the element of fire.  I begin watching the spiraling smoke rise up the ear cone as the air element is now releasing and renewing.  I meditate on this spiraling smoke and feel transported to another time.  I?m conscious of another world where awareness of nature and the cosmos was a part of every day healing.  My heartbeat mimics the drums of the music, while the flutes, the ultimate air element, carry me away like an eagle soaring.  This is how I feel while performing Ear Coning (Ear Candling).

Have you ever had reflexology done on your ears?  It is well known that reflexology is done on the feet and hands.  There are reflexes in the feet and hands that correspond to every part of the body.  By stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands, you are increasing circulation and promoting specific bodily and muscular functions.  All of our energy lines also come out of the feet and hands.

Well the ears also have these same reflexes.  Imagine that your entire ear is the shape of an embryo, upside down in the womb.  Your ear lobe would be the head.  Now grab those lobes and give them a good massage.  You just woke up your brain.  Good job!  Now rub all over your ears.  Notice any sore spots?  Press and hold these?breathing and releasing.

The ear contains nerve endings to every area of the body, mind and spirit.  The nerve endings are connected by streams of subtle energy flow which carries our chi or ki.  If our hearing is impaired or blocked, we become disconnected to that energy.

Ear Coning began centuries ago and possibly originated in ancient Egypt.  Coning then spread to Europe, Greece and China is now practiced across the globe.  At its simplest stage, Ear Coning assists in the removing of ear wax and may improve a host of conditions related to the ear, sinuses and head.  But how is it that these results can be obtained?

One theory is that these benefits are possible because all the passages in the head are interconnected, allowing the candles to drain the entire system osmotically through the membrane of the ear.  The internal carotid artery, the auditory tube, the cochlear nerve, the facial nerve, the semicircular canal and the first turn of the cochlea are all located in the area immediately behind the tympanic membranes.  All nerves have a thin coating of spinal fluid which can become polluted with toxins from the environment and the food we eat.   The fluid in your body circulates 14 times a day in order to cleanse itself.  If toxicity is present, then the body cannot take in what it needs for the nervous system.

There are several vibrating tympanic membranes.   These membranes are linked by a series of canals.  The ear canal itself forms and helps support the brain.  These bones need to only move the distance of a paper?s thickness in order to make a correction.  When the bones are properly aligned, the osmotic pressures on the nerves that are related to your senses are shifted as well.  So it is believed that the gentle reverse osmotic pressure of the Ear Coning is enough to make such a correction.

There are many reasons why our cranial bones become misaligned.  Birth, allergies, colds, hats, earphones, telephones, scarves, glasses can all change the osmotic pressure on our nerves that relate to our sense of taste, smell, hearing and sight.  The only ways we can alter the pressure and clear out our Eustachian tubes is to swallow or when we hold our breath.  If the tubes are irritated they will not drain.  If the pressure cannot be released, it continues to build.  Ear Coning acts as a catalyst to clear out the debris on your nerve endings.

Ear Coning is relaxing, allowing your body, mind and spirit to feel nurtured.  Today, there are numerous medical doctors, herbalists, massage therapists, energy practitioners, naturopaths, chiropractors and other health care providers who practice ear coning.  The benefits have been documented through case histories by qualified practitioners.

Ear Coning helps in detoxifying the sinuses, lymph congestion, sore throat, earache, swimmers ear, chronic headaches and even allergies.  All who experience coning agrees it is safe, soothing, relaxing, painless and non-invasive.

Ear coning is more comfortable and less expensive than conventional ear cleaning where water is forced into the ear canal.  Many people use ear cones once a year, but others with chronic ear infections or itching (candida) benefit with more frequent treatments.  As the candle burns, the smoke travels into the ear canal, warming the ear wax and creating a gentle vacuum.

Herbs can also be infused into the Ear Cones by soaking gauze in herbal extracts and warm water.  Wring the gauze out and then wrap it around the cone.  Leave in a plastic bag overnight.  Herbs to consider would be:

Saffron ? Aids in opening up the sinuses

Camphor ? To open and stimulate the tissue

Echinacea ? To strengthen the lymphatic system

Aloe ? To sooth the tissues and encourage regeneration

Sage ? Wards off infection

Lavender ? Relaxes the body, mind and spirit

I use only natural handmade 100% beeswax cones and 100% unbleached cotton.  Beeswax cones burn slower than paraffin, a known carcinogen.  Remember this?NEVER TRY TO EAR CONE YOURSELF and ALWAYS DO IT IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA.

Treatments are $50 and last about 30 minutes.  Book your appointment online under Sessions.
